Prayer to St. Martin de Porres

This prayer to St. Martin de Porres invites us to lift our hearts in confidence and devotion, reaching out to a saint renowned for his compassionate love and profound humility. St. Martin de Porres, born in 1579 in Lima, Peru, was the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed Black woman, facing prejudice and hardship early in life due to his mixed heritage. Despite these challenges, Martin dedicated himself to serving the poor, the sick, and the marginalized, joining the Dominican Order as a lay brother. His deep humility and unwavering commitment to those in need became defining traits of his life, earning him the title “Saint of Charity.”

St. Martin’s legacy is filled with stories of healing and miraculous interventions. Among his devotees, he is cherished as a powerful intercessor and a patron of those who feel overlooked or oppressed. Accounts of his devotion span centuries, including reports of miraculous cures, visions, and even the gift of bilocation — the ability to be in two places at once — as he attended to the sick and the dying. Devotion to St. Martin has grown globally, and his intercessions have brought hope and solace to people of all backgrounds. As we pray to St. Martin today, we not only ask for his intercession but are reminded of his example of unity, humility, and service for all humanity.
