Marriage and Family

Despite her deep spiritual inclinations, Bridget’s life was also filled with the joys and challenges of family life. She was happily married for 28 years to Ulf Gudmarsson, with whom she had eight children. After the death of her husband, Bridget embraced a life of poverty and prayer by joining the Third Order of St. Francis. Founding of the Brigittines

Thus, the Brigittines were born, a community dedicated to living in poor convents and directing all surplus income to the poor. Despite their humble means, they were permitted to own as many books as they desired, emphasizing the importance of spiritual and intellectual growth.

Bridget’s devotion led her on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, but she spent the majority of her life in Rome. There, she fervently advocated for ecclesiastical reform, seeking to renew the Church and guide it back to its spiritual roots. Her daily life was marked by her practice of going to confession every day and maintaining a constant smile, reflecting her inner peace and joy.
